pet-423398_960_720The holidays can be a busy and stressful time for you. With all the decorating, shopping and holiday parties, it’s hard to keep up! As a pet owner, it’s very important that as you continue to celebrate the upcoming holidays, you need to take the time to keep your pets safe and healthy.

Accidents and illnesses within pets seem to be at the highest during the holidays. The reasons for this you may ask?

Here are a few safety tips for pets to keep them healthy during the holiday season:

  • If you are going to have a real tree in your home, be sure to keep it away from your pets. Tinsel, small ornaments and even pine needles can cause intestinal damage. Pets have even been known to get wrapped up in the lights, be sure that all lights are kept off lower branches to avoid an accident.
  • Keep plants such as holly, mistletoe, and poinsettia plants away from dogs and cats. These plants are poisonous and should be kept out of reach.
  • Burning candles, fireplaces and wires are also a danger for curious pets. There’s no telling where a wagging tail may end up, so be sure to keep them out of reach to avoid an accidental burn.
