After a long year of social distancing and what seemed like an even longer winter, it’s time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Not only do we feel this way, but our pups do too! Your dog is likely ready to play, have fun, socialize with other pups, and burn off all that pent-up energy. While it might’ve been tough keeping your dog active during the cooler months, the warmer months are here and with tons of great weather so that your dog can finally get out of the house! Here are some activities you can do with your pup this spring and summer.
Take Daily Walks
Going for a walk is one of the best and most simple forms of exercise for both you and your pup! Take your dog for a walk anywhere from 30-60 minutes a day to get them active. Maybe there’s a local park near your home or a walking trail that you both can enjoy. This gives your dog the opportunity to get out of the house every day and use some of that extra energy they have built up.
Practice Agility
With a little practice, dogs can become very agile. Take your pup to a dog park or agility course in your area. This will give your dog a fun physical activity and challenge every day! Start slow and help your dog work their way up to the more difficult courses. You don’t want them to injure themselves trying something too soon.
Create an Indoor Scavenger Hunt
Sometimes the weather isn’t great or maybe you don’t have time to leave your house. If so, create a scavenger hunt for your pup inside! Use toys to hide treats around your home to create this hunt. This will get your dog moving while also challenging their brain to search for their treats.
Work with a Dog Trainer
If you don’t have areas near your home to bring your pup for some exercise or if their behavior needs working on, consider a dog trainer! Hiring a great trainer will help transform your dog’s behavior. You’ll learn all the best commands and ways to take control so that you can make sure your dog is always on their best behavior. The training sessions will also give your dog some great exercise!
